  • October is the tenth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian Calendars and one of seven months with a length of 31 days. The eighth month in the old Roman calendar, October retained its name after January and February were inserted into the calendar that had originally been created by the Romans.

The zodiac signs for the month of October are Libra (until October 22) or Scorpio (October 23 onwards). October Star Stones: Libra (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22).   • Day of Week 6th » Jason Lewis (adventurer) known as Jason Lewis completes the first human-powered circumnavigation of the globe.
  • Day of Week 18th » 2007 Karachi bombings known as Karachi bombings: A suicide attack on a motorcade carrying former Pakistani Prime Minister of Pakistan named Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto kills 139 and wounds 450 more. Bhutto herself is uninjured.
  • Day of Week 19th » Philippines: A bomb explosion rocked Glorietta 2, a shopping mall in Makati. The blast killed 11 and injured more than 100 people.
  • Day of Week 22nd » Raid on Anuradhapura Air Force Base is carried out by 21 Tamil Tigers known as Tamil Tiger commandos. All except one died in this attack. Eight Sri Lankan Air Force planes are destroyed and 10 damaged.
  • Day of Week 23rd » A powerful cold front in the Bay of Campeche causes the Usumacinta Jackup rig to collide with Kab 101, leading to the death and drowning of 22 people during rescue operations after evacuation of the rig.
